upgrading a model B 4 cylinder engine

Has anyone had any success with the high compression heads for sale?

I run a Snyder's 5.5:1 A head on one of my engines. I had to plug a couple of water ways but that causes no drama. I've been disappointed with the engine but can't say it is the head. I've checked everything. My next move is to check that the valve timing is correct. My A engine fitted out exactly the same as the B is waaaay better.

It could be the distributor timing. If you are running the model A distributor in the B engine, you need to also use the model A timing cover. The model B timing cover has the timing pin location just a little different. Its close but just enough different to cause the engine to perform badly.

I run 5.9 heads with good results. The Snyder 5.5 and 6.0 heads both use similiar heart shaped combustion chambers and should perform nearly the same. Mine makes a night and day difference in performance and hill climbing ability, they also run cooler and get better gas milage. I would highly recommend the Snyder heads and you won't have to jump through hoops to get one.

My A has a B engine with a Brumfield head. I think it's 6:1, but not sure... This car runs as strong as I can imagine with no hesitation at all. running a B carb also with a B distributor.

I have nothing to compare to, but just my expectations..

Thanks Purdy, I am aware of that difference and timed the ignition from the piston at TDC. I got TDC by using a piston stop, turning the engine over in each direction and splitting the difference so it aint that.
