Deck lid
 

My 30 coupe was partially converted from a trunk to a rumble seat by a previous owner years ago. A new lid was installed but not the seat or the step plates. I am trying to restore the car and would like to convert it back to a trunk. The rumble lid has a repair to the inner panel at the bottom of the lid. It's not visible when used as a rumble lid but would be highly visible as a trunk lid. I've looked for an original trunk lid but have found that most have rust damage in the same place as mine. I have started thinking about using a repro lid. I have heard they can be difficult to fit. Has anyone had experience with these lids that could be shared? Are all repro deck lids the same or are those from some vendors better than others?

Ray. just my 2 cents. I was missing the deck lid on my 27 roadster. "I know, its not a model a", but as a point of reference, I bought one from that sheet metal place in Texas. Did it fit? Heck no. I had to open up all the seams and reshape and and rebend the seams and the upper curve. Trouble is, that there is not any places that repop T parts. Very limitied plus 27 deck lids are almost impossible to find. "A" parts, might have several manufactures. If you could find a decent used one it might fit your needs better with some work. Easy for me to say huh? Good luck with it.

The A lids I believe are all made by Brookville.

They come loose, that is the top is just crimped to the bottom. After you get it hinged you have someone set it to fit the body while another does 4 welds to lock the shape.
This is similar to how the factory did it. If you look there are just a few spot welds on the original lids to lock the shape. The big difference is I am sure it was done on a jig off the car.

That way you can make it look right, EVEN if your body is a mite KROOKEDY.

If you have something that is in a perfect plane so that all four corners can be in a perfect plane, then you could tack it off the car.
However, with these ancient used frames and bodies it might still not fit your car.
Maybe a proven concrete floor??
