muffler hanger clamp are the two basic designs of muffler hanger clamps interchangeable?

Re: muffler hanger clamp Do a search . Lots of info on hangers . If you have a SS muffler and tail pipe DO NOT clamp the hanger tight against the pipe . Leave loose so tail pipe can expand .

Re: muffler hanger clamp I got a large clamp for my stainless muffler and put a piece of welding blanket between the clamp and pipe. Now it won't rattle or bind. I'm a little gunshot after a hanger was bent when the muffler dropped to the floor. It wouldn't allow the pipe to slide, and I cracked the exhaust manifold between 3&4.

Re: muffler hanger clamp I did indeed search but came up with mainly comments about the stainless steel hanger. Anyway, my experience has been that the clamps are impossible to get on the traditional Aries steel pipe and slide up the curve without first prying open the clamp. It is hard for me to believe that originally, one had to spread the clamp before using it.
Of more importance, I could not fasten mine properly per the instructions that came with the clamp, the holes did not line up well. I reversed the clamp and found out it fastened easily. Go figure. |
