Re: Zenith side bowl

The Zenith side bowl filter assembly from Bratton's is probably the best on the market, but like anything repo it comes with side affects.

The first area of concern is the two sides of the main casting. They should not only be flat, but parallel to each other.

The second area is the large bolt assembly that goes through the casting. The flange on the end must be machined such that when bolted up it is not bottoming.

Both of the above areas will be a source of a fuel leak. A little re-work with a mill and a lathe will correct any deficiency.

Another thing to check is the flatness of the boss on the carburetor where the filter attaches.

When installing a side bowl carburetor onto a car the first time leave the large hex bolt of the filter loose until you have the fuel line bolted up at each end, then tighten the large hex after aligning it properly. After that you can remove the carburetor and re-install on the same car without touching the setting of the large hex.
