Newbie with horn issues
 

Hello everyone, this is my first post here. I have owened a Model A for all of 2 months and am a novice when it comes to mechanics. The 1929 Standard Coupe I purcahsed has a new light wiring harness but it was not installed. I started last night working on getting it installed. Started with the horn to see if I could get it to work. Hooked up the two wires and pushed the horn button and it worked. Not the coolest Ahooga but it worked. Started to put the housing back together and pushed the button again cause my luck usually runs out when putting stuff back together...and it didn't sound anymore. The motor still spins fast. I had a new diaphram and the old one was full of tiny rust holes so I changes it. Stiil nothing. Any ideas. Read something about the small hole in the diaphram having to be in a certain spot. Any help is appreciated.

If the motor is spinning on the horn, turn the adjustment screw clockwise 1 click and try the horn again. Repeat that until you start to hear it blow. Adjust for your perfect ahooga sound.

I will try again tonight but I don't remember feeling any clicks when I turned the adjustment screw.

Ok let us know. With each turn you should feel and hear a distinct click.

Sorry for more questions but if I don't hear the clicks what could be the issue.

I believe there is a spring in there, so it is possible it has something to do with that.

I adjusted a guy's horn at French Lick and also couldn't feel the clicks, so I suspect he was missing a part. The screw head and the bracket it pushes against should both hve radial serations to hold the screw from turning on it's own.

It's important for the diaphram to be correctly positioned so the wavey washer strikes the wedge correctly.

When you screwed the cover onto the horn, it pulls back on the motor frame, which may have been enough to make the wavey washer clear the diaphram wedge. Try turning the adjustment screw clockwise as mentioned to make a slight contact.

I got it. I took it all back apart and cleaned it with wd40 like someone suggested on the forum. Realigned everthing and it worked somehow. Thanks for the help. Now to get the lights to work.
