Robert, it's hard to work out what exactly you are asking.

But here's a thread about TDC.

Roert...I think O/T means on top.Correct? The same as TDC. If so ,maybe this will help.

I wanted to see how bad the translators are, so I took Greg's German post and translated back into English:

When you would please post your questions on German, I'm trying to help. Happy birthday, Greg in JAX

You want to remove the right (passenger side) (left side head when looking from the front of the car). # 1 cylinder is the most forward one.

That is how good the translator softwares are. "Alles Gute" means "all the best." You could say it for a birthday, too, but I don't know when his is.

His question: "I am trying to find out how to find TDC on #1 without removing the cylinder head." Shoot away, guys. I think that the directions are already listed above.

Bruce Lancaster, 29. Dezember 2005

The original English, for all you others. Bruce Lancaster's method, which works quite well. Don't try to use a translator software on this!

Flathead with head on--slide in a long large tie-wrap through plug hole so the buckle part goes all the way over to far cylinder wall.

Turn engine by hand until rising piston hits obstruction. Mark degree wheel or pulley. Turn engine backwards until it hits thataway. Mark again. TDC is 1/2 way between your marks. If using a rigid obstruction, you are done. If using the tie wrap through plug hole, repeat a couple times to make sure your helper really kept it in the same place throughout the operation. This is no harder or slower than any Mickey Mouse way.

My earliest flathead memories are of riding in the backseat of our '48 (Still have it!!) in Hamburg, still partly in ruins and full of refugees then. First word I could read was "Esso", from a huge sign overlooking the city...
I was a bilingual child, but now the German is all gone.
