39 oil drain plug

I am sure someone has done it, drilled a smaller hole in the plug and put a smaller plug in it that is, to cut down the sudden rush of oil and resulting oil splash all over everything.

What are pros and cons???

I can only guess, but, I think one reason for the big plug was to get a strong gush to help clear out some of the sludge that is always at the bottom of the pan. Just put your drain pan on some blocks and it won't "splash all over everything". Keep things simple.

Lawson,
have your wife do it. I would think a smaller hole would work. We hobbyists don't let the oil stay in the engine for ever. some plugs have a cup like inside to catch junk. Would this mess that up. I usually put a small magnet in the plug to catch steel shavings

I cut the top out of one of my oil catch pans and put on a 1/2 screen. Oil goes in without backing up, but cant drop plug etc into it. Pour into transpotable container for recycling.

Clem: Best suggestion yet. I'll see if I can con her into changing the oil. LOL. John is probably right about large plug helping to drain sludge, but then again, Henry went back to the small plugs. Just saying.
