My first parade
 

The "Ladyslipper" Model A club of Rochester MN participated in a parade on the 4th in Stewartville MN and I joined in.
I was curious about how hot my engine water would get. I have a '31 Roadster with a Brassworks pressurized radiator and a 6 blade plastic fan. It was about 70 - 75 degrees out and the route was 2 miles. The water temp got up to 185 by the end of the route. It cooled back to 155 degrees as soon as I got back on the road. Sound normal to you folks?
The only issue was my left leg got a work out from keeping the clutch in so long.
Was a lot of fun and would recommend it to anyone who has not done it yet.

My 31 Tudor has crept along at parade pace in 90 degree heat, never got over 160 degrees. Has a 6-blade plastic fan and a new radiator. The trick is to get your idle speed down super low, then just use the spark advance for "speed control". I never sat with my food on the clutch. If we were stopping, I would slip it out of gear into neutral and keep my foot off the clutch.

The car could have done that all day long and never overheated. Your horn failing should be your biggest worry.

I did a 2 mile, 1 hour parade on the 27th of last month, was in the mid 80s... With a laser thermometer, at the top of radiator it was 117F. I have a 2 blade fan and 50/50 antifreeze as coolant and I topped it off before every drive. Oh and I felt your pain, leg wise for the same reason

I also use 50% antifreeze, but don't have to top it off before every drive. The coolant only needs to cover the tops of the tubes by 1/2" or so. How full do you fill it?

I should say fill it to the point of the over flow...

That leaves no room for expansion.
Let it seek it's own level and if it's still just over the tube tops, then you're good to go.:)
