Ford Banjo Converted to what appears to be a PTO

I have the Banjo from and early Ford (say a 1938---to a late 40's) It was painted yellow and the gear cluster appears to be identical as my 41. THe question is does anyone have and idea what this may have been made for??

One side has a blank cover plate which supports and holds the bearing race for the ring gear bearing the opposite side has a very short shaft (say 3 inches) with a a u-joint in addition the axle cover is drilled and tap for a oil feed connection, The input to the Banjo has the same. I will put it back together and take some pics unless someone by chance know exactly what this is out of.
Have checked many many many web sites for pics of ford Banjo with no luck. Curoisity has gotten the best of me

So much old Ford stuff has been repurposed, the old timers used what they had! I had a mower made out of one (had a chain welded to the pinion) I never was brave enough to use it I kept thinking about it breaking a piece of that chain off!

I have seen them used for post hole augers, mounted on the back of Farm tractors.

the ford gears were also used in ditch wich machines, I wasnt aware of this until a fellow barner told me about it a couple of years ago, that speaks volumes as to versatility and quality of our beloved old fords!

Old Wayne street sweepers used 4 or 5 differentials in their machines.
Now they use hydraulic motors and hoses instead of drive shafts.

When I was a kid my dad had a home made shredder that used a banjo differential and went behind our 53 Golden Jubilee Ford tractor.
