Need hinge screws

I need 5/6" x 24 x 1" oval/phillips head screws for the door hinges for my 45 1/2 ton. I've tried all the usual suppliers, no one seems to have them. Lots of hinge screws for the earlier and later ones, but not for mine. Any ideas where I might find them?

Re: Need hinge screws

I checked "Fordbolts" their minimum order is $25.00 plus it looks like $10.00 shipping. I only need 12 bolts if I replace them all, 3 if I just replace the broken ones. I'm going to look around a bit more.

Thanks.

Minimum order is a pain, especially for 3 screws.
Good luck.
Martin.

Re: Need hinge screws

While not correct, have you tried countersunk cap screws. You can get great leverage tightening them with an Allen key? Plus buy one or more.

While not correct, I used flathead allen cap screws, 1/4-28 SAE in the '29 roadster hinges. 5/16-24 SAE is avail. in some good hardware stores or McMaster Carr where you would probably have to buy 25, but shipping is very reasonable and quick. Another source is Wholesale Tool in Warren MI.

Those are slotted head rather than phillips. They will certainly work, but I would prefer phillips heads as I feel I can torque them up tighter than the slotted. I may just see about using countersunk allen head machine screws if I can find them locally. In which case I will trade them all out so I don't have to change tools while installing or removing them.

Again, thanks for the input.

Re: Need hinge screws

If you have an ACE HDWE or Lowes they have a section of special nuts/bolts & stuff. You might try there.

Totally incorrect for a 40 but I bought mine from Ace and was able to put a nut with a lock washer on the backside. I too wanted more torque and less slippage and chance for scratching paint

Re: Need hinge screws

Same bolts used on f1 trucks and the oval philips head is an odd one that the typical hardware store will not carry. You may be able to find in stainless there but not in regular steel. Not sure where fordbolts gets them or if they make them but they are the only source I am aware of. Saw some on ebay but they were 1-1/2 inches long and a bit pricey.

Re: Need hinge screws

It has come up before on other forums and apparently Harley's used them on some older models. Pretty sure they were chromed, tho, and I don't have a p/n. Knowing H-D pricing, they are not likely to be cheap.

If you want to do it right get them from Roy. If you want to go cheap and drive all over town for incorrect ones remember to factor in your gas cost also.

I would be ashamed to drive an old Ford and try to save a few bucks, by using hardware store bolts, when I could have correct bolts from Roy. This hobby ain't cheap, if you try to do it right!! All of my bolts and fasteners have been from Roy, and I'm proud of it. My two cents!!!

I have bought quite a few bolts and clips from Roy over the years. When I was installing my doors onto my car (my first build) I had never heard of Roy. On top of that he only lives about 12 miles from me, he is a great guy and fun to talk to I try to stop in just to say hi sometimes.

You can't stop in and just say Hi to Roy. He can talk the tail off of a brass monkey. LOL. Great fellow.
