Stake body Pickup While waiting for acceptance on to the AA forum I thought I might ask here.
I've been told that there were a few Ford stake bed trucks built on an A chassis as opposed to an AA chassis. I saw one at a show and was wondering how I might tell if it is just a pickup with a cut down AA bed or one made that way from Ford. |
Re: Stake body Pickup 2 Attachment(s)
Mine was made from scratch out of redwood. Very practical and I drive it a lot. When I removed the homemade C-Cab and replaced it with a steel cab that was extended 6-1/2", I cut down the flatbed. The only other one I've seen was alsao homemade. It would be interesting to know if they offered kits and/or ready made beds back in the day. The bed is attached to the frame with four U-bolts. Hardest part was running ground wires to the tail lights.

Re: Stake body Pickup "pickup" usually refers to the Model A with the pickup cargo body. "stake body" would refer to the AA platform body with AA stake rack sides (in Ford's lingo). It could be that a pickup cargo body with stake sides would be termed "stake pickup body". Just not via Ford documentation.
I am sure that the Ford sold AA platforms were never sold on the A chassis. It is not listed in any Ford documentation that I have seen and it would not fit the A frame anyway. The various platform bodies could be cut-down/modified to fit an A chassis and I am sure folks have done that over the years. There is documentation at http://aafords.com/open-bodies/platform-bodies/ regarding the four different Ford sold AA platform bodies. |

Thanks. |
Re: Stake body Pickup Since we are on the subject, Does anyone know what the costs were for cab and chassis for an A pick up that were sold to body builders vs AA cab and chassis (I assume wheel base would play a part of this) that were sold to body builders. Just wondering how much extra they figured in for the larger radiator, four blade fan , bigger wheels and tires and transmission etc, for the AA. Mark

Re: Stake body Pickup Mark, no 4 blade fans came on any AA's. I've never seen the A chassis price, but I'd bet Neil has.

Re: Stake body Pickup 1 Attachment(s)
According to the FordEX the chassis could be ordered with a roadster pickup cab or just a cowl section.

Re: Stake body Pickup 1 Attachment(s)
There were suppliers, Kentucky Wagon Works is one, that took the chassis and built various configurations of vehicles. This is one that was at the MARC meet in San Diego in 2011

Re: Stake body Pickup From the "Ford Truck Fax" a page showing a 1929 AA lists the following:
AA chassis $520 closed cab $90 stake body $65 (platform + stake racks) There is no similar information for the A. One page shows: A pickup with closed cab $460 So, $460 - $90 for the cab leaves $370 for the A chassis and pickup body. |
