How to install wind wings My wife bought me a pair of etched wind wings to replace the plain ones on my 1930 Phaeton. She said they weren't pretty enough.
Which way should the etched side of the glass be on? Facing the front or facing the back? I'm guessing the back so as to keep the bugs out of the etching, but I would like to be sure and do it right (the first time). Thanks. |
Re: How to install wind wings I vote with you.

Re: How to install wind wings Not sure that there is a correct answer but I would face the etching out so the beauty can be seen by all. No need to worry about the bugs because a a Model A can't go fast enough to kill a bug !

Etching is FACING ME in the Car...

Re: How to install wind wings Agree with #6, I have mine facing in also to protect from the elements!!

Re: How to install wind wings absolutely the etching is on the inside, protected from the dirt, bugs, etc. The etching is on GLASS ! so the inside etching is easily seen through the glass and clearly view-able from the outside.
Big thing here is the mounting. Check with several threads here on FORD BARN Forum about hints on mounting. Open car w/w brackets are prone to "letting go", and you then have to buy another glass. If you 'do it right' the first time, you can save a lot of grief ! |
Re: How to install wind wings Thanks guys!
I have one mounted as you have suggested and it looks great. Incidentally the new glass that came from MACS is shorter than the plain glass that came on the car. New = 12 3/4" tall, old = 14 1/2". Re: How to install wind wings Way to go Gordon. Send us a picture like msmaron did, as I know everyone would like to see them. I did the etching on mine, myself. I took a christmas card and cut out a flower with a butterfly above it and one on the bottom of it at the edge of the glass like your etching is in the middle. Then my brother-in law took it to work and sandblasted the cut out pictures for me. Couldnt be happier with them. Would send you a picture but dont know how.
