Who sells sealed beam conversion rings Hello, I wanted to ask who sells adapter rings to run new sealed beam lights in stock 30/31 headlight buckets?
I think some adapters use the original glass. but have seen ones that just run the complete sealed beam unit thank you!! |
Re: Who sells sealed beam conversion rings I don't know if anyone sells parts to convert to sealed beams. I bought a set that had been converted using parts from other old cars. They work fine. They do have more of a bugeye look. They do draw more current than the generator could supply so I had to go with an alternator. The sealed beams are a couple generations back now. If I was doing it now I would go with halogen or LED. Howie

Re: Who sells sealed beam conversion rings The trouble with the ones behind the glass is the beam focused on the road. The original glass was shaped that way for a purpose. It might be bright but it can't be focused.

Re: Who sells sealed beam conversion rings Thank you guys, much appreciated!!
Also Does anyone know of the regular bugeye conversion rings, without the stock lens in front of it? |

Re: Who sells sealed beam conversion rings Try posting an ad in the wanted section for an old set. The bug eye ones looks so bad and the behind the lens ones work so poor that if you can find a set the price will be right. I just gave away a set of the behind the lens ones.

Re: Who sells sealed beam conversion rings Once you find the rings you can use a 7" round conversion light that is almost flat on the front so it doesn't look quite so bug-eyed.

Re: Who sells sealed beam conversion rings I used a set behind the lens in 28-29 buckets and they fit good. If you plan on using 30-31 headlight buckets with the behind the lens set up, the wiring is very close with the shallower bucket. I think that you have to bend the tabs on the sealed beam bulbs and connect each one seperately. The old style sealed beam conversion fits good in both style headlamp buckets with plenty room at the back for normal sealed beam plug in connections. The old style conversion was very popular in the day and still can be found. I would try Berts in Denver 800-321-1931 , tuesday through friday. I'm pretty sure that they will have both styles.

Re: Who sells sealed beam conversion rings I had a set of adapters with the sealed beam bulb behind the glass. Very poor lighting. The Lens distorts the light and makes for poor night driving. Just couldn't take the bug-eyes so went to original reflectors and bulbs.

Re: Who sells sealed beam conversion rings 3 Attachment(s)
I have a pair of "bug eye" set-ups that I took off my 1929 Coupe twenty or so years ago when I bought it. I'm thinking about putting them on eBay but I'm having a tough time trying to figure out how they went on the car! The bulbs seem to be clipped to the ring with some type of press-on holders. Not sure how one would get them off easily to replace the bulbs. They both worked when I took them off way back when. Any idea how I could list these that make any sense?

Re: Who sells sealed beam conversion rings just put them under model A headlights and price them low..............

Re: Who sells sealed beam conversion rings Consider leaving the stock headlights but adding some 6V driving lights mounted to the bumper.

These were on my car in 1960; I have no idea from whence they came. I like their looks and function.
Pictures of a few other mods someone may be interested in: hotwater heater (controller on right kick panel, by wife!); sun screen held up by two little hooks: What's It? brand turn signal controller mounted on dash rail; incorrect but era-okay interior picked out by my wife. |
Re: Who sells sealed beam conversion rings That's what I did. Put them at $15 with $14.35 flat rate shipping. Thanks.
