Tailpipe Rattle My tailpipe has a bad rattle. It drive me bonkers. I know they have to be a little loose for heat expansion but how much? Is there something to be inserted between the rear clamp and pipe? Appreciate all info on this Thanks RAY

Re: Tailpipe Rattle When your wife is not looking take one of her new silicone rubber spatulas and cut off a strip to use in the clamp. It will take the heat and be rubbery to hold tight the pipe and allow for expansion. :D

Re: Tailpipe Rattle Ray64, I had a exhaust ring drop into the exhaust pipe while changing gasket. A rattle I had until I changed the exhaust pipe finding not one but two rings.

Re: Tailpipe Rattle Are you sure its the clamp? A loose baffle will cause quite an irritating rattle... Had one on my skidloader, after a couple years it wore through the outside case of the muffler. As I could then see where it was, I took the muffler off and welded the baffle from the outside, filling the wear hole at the same time. Ran for years like that, no more rattle.

Re: Tailpipe Rattle Do a search . There is a fellow on here that is giving away insulation material to put on the inside of the clamp which will solve the rattle problem . Send him a self addressed envelop and he will mail you back some insulation material . He mailed me some .

Re: Tailpipe Rattle And I thought that I was the only one that dropped a gland into the muffler. I was going to post that if you have the pipe disconnected, you should plug it with a rag.

Re: Tailpipe Rattle If the rattle is the rear clamp, I insert a strip of welding glove sleeve.

Re: Tailpipe Rattle 1 Attachment(s)
I made a rubber insulated hanger which installs in the original frame hole as the existing tailpipe clamp and holds the pipe at the height as original. NO MORE RATTLES!!!

Re: Tailpipe Rattle In the case of SS tail pipe , the pipe has to lay in the clamp loose so it can expand .
