To chrome or not??

Almost all windshield frames that have been chromed rust out in time..some sooner than later...my Cabriolet should have a nickel/chrome finish, but when they dip in tank to remove old chrome/nickel it leaves acid in places that cannot be reached and there we go with the rust out...I have two windshield frames on two different cars and both were chromed and now are rusting out...I'm thinking to heck with judging and paint it black..what do the rest of you think??? Re: To chrome or not??

We had a chrome seminar at our Thursday clinic two days ago, and the shop owner also mentioned how the chrome frame rusts from the inside out. He also suggested buying a new frame.

Re: To chrome or not??

The way to prevent corrosion after chrome plating is to immerse the part into warm preserving oil. It will flow into all the places the chrome solution got into and prevent corrosion. This is what we did after chrome plating in the shop I worked in years ago. After pulling the part our of the oil, just wipe it down and your good to go.

Polish an aluminum frame if judging isn't an issue.I had one in a coupe and it looked like chrome with a little elbow grease ( ok, a lot of elbow grease)
