Overrive switch- firewall- A friend has a butifull 41 Lincoln Zepher with OD. He needs that switch on the firewall that has a couple of wire terminals, what ever you call it. I sure someone knows what I'm talking about. What do you call that thing and does anyone know where to get one? Thanks Walt

Re: Overrive switch- firewall- Walt, Will this help?
http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/t...BW-ODparts.htm and https://www.google.com/search?q=1941...sm=93&ie=UTF-8 Also, a friend of mine has the overdrive relay for a 1955 Ford transmission if that will help. |
Re: Overrive switch- firewall- Is it the relay or the kickdown switch he's after?

Re: Overrive switch- firewall- Ok, is it down by the pedal on those. I have seen early overdrive equipped cars with the later firewall mounted switch, behind the throttle linkage. They do seem to work better up there out of all the underside stuff.
It possible in the 70 odd years it has been changed to a firewall switch. Martin. |
Re: Overrive switch- firewall- Thanks 19fordy, I opened Mac's Van site and the pic of the rely for the 49-55 is the correct thing. I just called the owner and gave him Mac's no. Thanks for the help. Walt

Re: Overrive switch- firewall- I seem to recall that the early Lincolns used the Columbia two speed axle type of OD. If I'm correct, the dash mounted switch would be the Columbia self canceling toggle switch.

Re: Overrive switch- firewall- 41Lincoln Is Borg Warner overdrive I think.
This the first year for this overdrive? Martin. |
Re: Overrive switch- firewall- When FoMoCo started changing over to remote control shift, the Columbia started to lose out in favor of the Borg Warner electric overdrive in the Lincoln line but I don't have a lot of info about when they changed over. Lincolns always had ther own parts manuals and I only have the ones begining in 1949. Lincoln cars were definitely the first FoMoCo vehicles to get the Borg Warner OD.
