Tudor overweight?
 

I had to make a run to the dump today, and decided to use the Tudor so I could get it on the scale and find out what it weighs (for curiosity's sake and to calculate a total trailer weight if it was on a trailer).

Total weight? 2720 lbs.

That does include my 190 lbs., a full tank of gas, and the bag containing the jug of used motor oil and a small bag containing oil filter stuff.

I thought the Tudor was supposed to weigh just over 2100 lbs.??? What has caused my 31 to be so overweight?

I've weighed my 29 Tudor twice. 2720 and 2640. Don't recall how much gas was in it either time, but that could account for the difference.

You need to see if it is actual weight or gross ton. Most drive on dump, gravel pit and scrap yard scales are gross ton.

I can't find anything on this online. What is "gross ton" and how does it differ from actual weight?

Gee, thanks, Mike! Yea, The General is pretty obese. But, sorry M.G., no bondo in the car. Maybe vacuuming it out might make a difference... As long as the vacuum was strong enough to remove the nut behind the wheel.

The drive-on scale at the landfill measures in pounds. It's a digital scale and fairly accurate, I am told. However, I cannot guarantee that fact. A full tank of gas should weigh around 80 pounds.

So, is 2500 pounds (without driver) about right for a dead stock 31 Tudor Model A? Maybe Henry weighed them without wheels, gas, oil, water, etc.??

The whole point of this exercise is I am trying to do whatever possible to improve the fuel economy.

How much does the water in the cooling system and oil in the engine, trans and differential weigh? I'm sure those were not included. What about your glass, is it original?

you= 190

gas and oil in engine and in jug say 100 lb. (gas is 6lb gallon)

spare tire and tube (spare tire did not come with car) say 40 lb

3 gallons of water say 30 lb. still =2,460 + about 250lb of tools under the rear seat :D= getting closer

You know, we all gain weight as we age. Maybe your car did, too.

You don't have old stale air in the tires do you. As it ages it absorbs atmosphere making it heavier. Try letting all the air out and refilling with fresh!! :D:D

May want to try a state highway scale just to compare weight from another scale. Here is Oregon you can drive right on and it tells you the weight.

I thought the stated weight of a Tudor was just over 2400 pounds.

Yes. I weigh just a little over 190 depending on what I'm wearing. Maybe I should drive over there naked next time and see how much weight that saves.

It's a 40 mile round trip, and I left with a full tank last time, so I used less than a gallon to get there. So, I had at least 10 gallons in the tank.

Thank you for the numbers Tom and Mike. Hmmm... Time to start weighing the stuff under the back seat. Spare distributor and carb, tool kit, gun and ammo, knives, crank, jack, all adds up apparently.
