batteries Any particular brand of battery better then another? do 6v batteries have better cranking power? Thanks latecomer

Re: batteries I had a 6v Firestone battery that lasted for nine years. Most other brands I buy last about 3 years, or just about the length of their warranty. I have always run 6v batteries (53 years and counting).

Re: batteries Thanks for the reply on batteries my first 6v lasted just about three and a half years.

Re: batteries Any battery will last if treated properly. Use a maintainer in the winter. Set your 3rd brush properly or use a voltage regulator so it doesn't overcharge. Never let the battery discharge. Treat the battery properly and they will all be fine. All brands will have a battery now and then that fails prematurely, thats just the way it is.

Re: batteries You can't beat the Optima dry cells.

Re: batteries I use interstate batteries in all my A's, Ford 8 N and my D2 Cat. Have had good luck with them all.

Re: batteries Vermin is not driving yet, with his new Optima. I've read that the Optima gives a huge burst on initial cranking?? My engine was built in '87 & only has about 40 miles on it. After sitting for 2 1/2 years, I couldn't budge it with the KROOKEDY crank. With ONLY the starter hooked up, the great old Optima spun that Dude over, like, "RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR---RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR-RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!! & YES! the plugs were in it!! MAN! I gotta' git offen' my DUFF & finish thet rattle-trap!---Bill W.

doesnt really matter - they all have duds. get the cheapest with the longest warranty. usually farm stores |
Re: batteries I worked for a guy who had a theory that the cheap batteries outlasted the more expensive ones. Because the plates were shorter and so there was more space between the plates and the bottom of the case. His theory was that there was more room for sediment to collect before shorting across the plates.

Re: batteries 1 Attachment(s)
The Optima was the last battery I bought, over 16 years ago, all my modern cars have been using "free" batterys from the junk piles, now my A has one when the
Optima died last year, I didn't have any 6v ones so I cut a 12v in 1/2 I figured if I bought a new Optima I wouldn't get the same service I got from the first one, that I would be dissapointed, I looked for other 6V agm options but didn't find any, I contemplated cutting apart one of these agm Mercedes batterys and trying to put it inside the script case, it would be nice if the repro script batterys while looking original on the outside used new tec inside so they would last more than the 2-3 years Another option is to go to Interstate ans ask if they have any "econo" 6v batterys, I got 5 years fron one of them before the Optima, they are usually warranty returns that wern't really bad, usually not very old |
