front tool box

Last week I saw a toolbox on the front of an A that simple a big square box that had to be something 18x12x12. I have seen the little ones in the catalogs but I would like to find this big one. I don't know is the owner made it or whether it is available somewhere.

Anyone have any idea?

The man that made those square tool boxes that you were referring to, quit making them a couple years ago.

Big, easy to install, but USA made. He made a big run of them, but it took him several years to sell them all, and he didnt make any money off of the deal, so he quit.

I have one and am very pleased with it. Millard did a great job designing and modifying the boxes so they are just what I wanted. The later ones were powder coated and had the lock on the side. Some of the earlier ones did not have mounting points to clear a stone guard. We took measurement from mine and fixed that.

there is also a rounded type of box out there. It looks great but doesn't hold as much as the box version.

Mine is just a steel box that was used for a circular saw. I got the base that it sits on from Berts I think.

Did this one for $20 using some 1/4" X 2-1/2" strap and an old Craftsman tool box.

Not exactly 1920-30's ....but I like it. :D

I may go this way. I have a slightly bigger toolbox.

It is important to note that the 'Big' box covers the crank hole and does not allow for hand cranking. The smaller 'Craftsman' tool box (Denis4X4 post above) does allow for the use of a hand crank, but you may have to modify the crank handle to add length to get over the tool box.

The 'Big' box is listed on page 94 of Bert's Model A Center catalog - $190.
The 'Big' box is listed on page 295 of Sacramento Vintage Ford catalog. $245.

If unavailable, you might try contacting Alan Bennett : Ph: (818) 222-4432
or - Roger Sandmeier : Ph: (775) 782-3903
These guys made these type of boxes several years ago and may still have one 'kicking around'.

We have a Clubber who mounted two wooden arms on the sides of his tool box and sat it across the bumper arms. Looks good to me.

There is a local guy that makes small ones that hang on the radiator supports. Just to hold a few wrenches and things. I like them a lot, but no picture. I can try and get a picture next weekend at the car show. He doesn't sell them though, you have to win them or be a member in their club I think.
