Front motor mount Guys
I've already read previous threads and books. Question What is the design clearance between the crank shaft and the cross member that the front motor mount sits on. I ask because mine appears to be between 1/8"-1/4". All the parts in the 3 point front motor mount appear to be correct. I'm concerned that the crank will rub on the cross member on a trip. This has not happened....yet Is this normal If not normal, where should I look for this lose of clearance Thanks Tom |
Re: Front motor mount does your crank line up to the hand crank hole

Re: Front motor mount Yes..I looked with a beam of light yesterday and they appear to line up. But I don't have a crank, so I'm not 100% sure.

Re: Front motor mount If you can't replaced the fan belt with your set up you have a problem, buy the complete front mount kit, that should solve it.

Re: Front motor mount I would rather not just replace parts if not necessary.
I have done that in the past and found that the new parts didn't achieve any better results. Anybody have that dimension? Looking for the number guys to give a exact number.... How about Marco....... |
Re: Front motor mount If you look at Marco's site he states the installed height of the
springs is 1 1/8". http://www.abarnyard.com/workshop/mount.htm Bob |
Re: Front motor mount I've never seen a published demension of the clearance between the shank of the pulley and the front cross member . I have noticed wear patterns on old pulley shanks where they had rubbed the front cross member. I usually grind a little extra clearance on the crossmember when I build one up. Front motor mount springs get weak and eventually sag in time, replacement isn't a bad idea. The castile nut, under the cross member, on the front motor mount yoke should only be tightened just enough to get the cotter pin through the hole in the yoke stud. Any tighter on the castile nut can cause vibration and other problems. I would also check for frame sag at the rear motor mounts . A frame sag at the rear mounts can causes many problems including the front mount alignment.

Re: Front motor mount I have seen the 1/8 inch in at least one manual. While the springs do get weak isn't most of the support at the rear mounts? Two other possible source of sagging are the rubber pads at the rear mount and bolts to flywheel cover. If the rubber pads are tired and crusty or the bushing are missing and/or the bolts going into the flywheel cover are not tight.
