Unsusal Find

I am helping a friend work on his 1930 coupe and found this unusual brake drum / hub. Can anyone identify it?

Commonly called the Rocky Mountain brake drum. Is it 12" or 11"?

It's cast iron so it doesn't have the brake fade of the steel drums.

Re: Unsusal Find

I have two (2) original brake drums that look very similar on my Model B front axle that my Uncle used to make a boat trailer in 1932 -- think the drums are 12" inside diameter -- never removed them since 1960 or 54 years ago ............ CRS could be possible after 50 years in many cases.

Used on new cars late in 31. Better than the solid drum.

Re: Unsusal Find

If the inside diameter is arround eleven inches it is a late 31 cast iron drum. If it is 12 inch inside diametyer it is 32 or later.

Thank you for the help gentlemen. I do not have the drum here at my place. I will measure it when I see my friend again to do the brake job on his 30 coupe.

I have 3 of them and can tell by the amount of material just passed the 5 spokes that it is an 11" drum. Nice find.
