32 rear axle in Model-A rear? The big green book lists 28-32 axle as interchangeable. I just would like to confirm before disassembling a '32 rear. Will the axle shafts interchange into a 30/31 Model-A rear without any problems?
I have a pretty galled up taper on both shafts on the A rear. One even seems to let the drum sit in too far as it had a shim on it when I initially took it apart. Thanks for any help Zach |
Re: 32 rear axle in Model-A rear? There are 2 different 32 rears, the one using the same center banjo section has the same gears and axles as the A----if the area where the torque tube attaches is round like the A the in nerds are like A, if the area is scalloped like later V8 then the parts won't work

Re: 32 rear axle in Model-A rear? Most '32 axles will work fine in a Model A but I don't think the late '32 will work. You can identify the late rear end by scollops where the torque tube attaches to the center section.

Re: 32 rear axle in Model-A rear? I seem to remember that a 32 scallop rear that came through my hands had a 4.11 gear ratio? Back then (pre overdrive & Mitchell) the 4.11 was what everyone wanted to get away from.
Can this be correct? Joe K |
Re: 32 rear axle in Model-A rear? Thanks guys, should have mentioned this is an early '32 rear.
I'll strip it down tomorrow, hopefully the '32 axles look better! Thanks Zach |
Re: 32 rear axle in Model-A rear? the axle shafts and other parts interchange, the whole assembly will not as the spring mounts are different.
