Model A Jacks and Jacking
 

Model A Friends,

A few quick questions on jacks and jacking a model a:

1) In the rear of the car is it safe (in terms on not doing damage) to jack up a model A by lifting it up by the differential? and in terms for the front end, the center of the front axel? (this all in terms of working with a floor jack in building...


2) Any advice on a good road jack to carry? Also where can a Model A be lifted safely roadside... Emergency situation....

For roadside I use the original (for my 31) type of screw jack ---but I won't use the original ratchet type jack.

I trust the original screw jack much more than a cheap bottle jack made in a cheap labor country sourced by a company seeking the lowest bidder.

At the front I place the jack just inside the perch nut, due to the wishbone and curvature of the axle I feel this is the place with the least chance of slipping.

the center of the diff is ok, and the ft axle center should be ok if the car or truck isn't modified to excessive weight or loaded overweight

I carry an old scissors jack and like Kurt above, I place it near the underside of the spring perch.
