How does "ignore" work?

I just noticed in the User Control Panel that certain members can be added to an Ignore List. I'm pretty sure I've earned a spot on some members' Ignore List (and would sure like to get on a couple more). If a member's user name is added to one's Ignore List what happens? Is no post from that member ever visible at all again? Or, something less?

Re: How does "ignore" work?

That members post is not visable to you, unless another member quotes them, then you will see it. If you remove them from the list all their posts will be seen by you again.

Thanks. I'm going to give it a try for a couple of members. There are some that I have just not been able to resist responding to their attacks on me and my posts that I always wish afterward that I had. Better not to even see them.

Remove user from ignore list
Old Henry This message is hidden because Old Henry is on your ignore list.

I just did this to show you what I see if I put you on my ignore list, you are not on it.

Re: How does "ignore" work?

Thanks again.

Hopefully these same guys will put me on their ignore list, too. Better for everyone concerned.

So, if anyone sees a snide, cynical, sarcastic, ridiculing, or belittling response to any of my posts that I don't respond to you'll know why. It's not because I've gone "soft". It's because I've gone "blind, deaf, and dumb" to that member's posts. It will be up to someone else to click the REPORT button on that one. ;)

I'll bet I can guess who that poster is on the forum. Maybe we should all put him on the ignore list to send him a message.

TJ,
I know who you are referring to also....there is just no doubt.....when I see
his avatar I just pass on by. Perhaps someday he'll grow up.
Personally I'd be crushed if the professor ignored me.....

It's like putting Blinders on a horse, the Crap & B.S. doesn't go away the horse just does not see it and he goes about his merry way. ( I am not calling you a horse )
I for one applaud Ryan & his Moderators ( I think thats the world ) for going in to the Barn an shoveling out the CRAP & B.S. so that we can have a better site to go & enjoy.

Re: How does "ignore" work?

Bill, I agree with you however, what seems a bit odd to me, is that when a victim of vitriolic post retaliates, he is tarred with the same brush as the originator of the attack... Its human nature to protect oneself from such attacks, warranted or otherwise, and unfortunately, a response in kind usually exacerbates the situation. I would suggest that the originator(s) of such postings receive a reprimand or whatever the moderators deem appropriate for the offence. It is true that the responder is guilty as well, but not to the same degree, if the response is meant to repel the initial barb. I admit that I have responded to postings deliberately meant to impugn, while keeping the verbiage rated PG so to speak. I enjoy participating on the FordBarn forum, and have for many years, hopefully my participation will be allowed to continue.

I learned long ago that it is a much bigger challenge to try and figure out who started a fight than it is to figure out who will end it. I have found that, although I may think I didn't start a fight, I sure have control over who will end it - ME. I always have control over that by just discontinuing lobbing the grenades. For some reason that's been really hard for me to do even though I know I should. I have not yet developed sufficient ability to "turn the other cheek".:(

I guess I'll just put on my helmet, blinders, and ear plugs and let the grenades fly without any knowledge of them.

You are an inspiration to me. I am sorry if some get smart with you. I have put one guy on the ignore list over on the HAMB. Some of the folks over there seen to make a game of smart remarks for no reason. Just keep enjoying your car and go straight ahead.
All the Best.
Andy

Gosh, aren't we all just here to have fun, visit, good fellowship and learn? I don't understand why some have to attach others.

Craig (Old Henry), I certainly appreciate all your contributions and furthermore, respect your knowledge and helpfulness!

just my .02 cents worth.

I am new to posting or replying to posts, however I have been a member of Ford Barn for sometime. I have just about learned who is "Talking the talk, from having Walked the walk" and who blowing smoke. Thanks to Old Henry for bringing this subject up. My first car was a 1935, 2 door humpback, my dad gave it to me at age 16, I am now 78, and have owned about every model Flathead in the Ford line (wish I had them all back). I now have a 32 2 door that I am working on, also a 1931 Slant Windshield and an 8N Ford Tractor. I have picked up a wealth of knowledge from this site, especially David G, for his 32 knowledge he has shared, Thanks!! I have learned a lot over the years, but I have discovered that a large book could be written on what I don't know. So with this being said Thanks for all of the good information.
I have tried to go by a saying I once heard, "It is better to keep your mouth shut and thought to be an Idiot, than to open it and remove all doubt". Hope I don't ever get "Ignored".
Thanks to all, and have a Great Day!!

I am old.

And I am young

I learn from the posters on this net.

I hoped that I can provide useful information in the future.

Don't ignore them, kill them with kindness. You can't combat kindness. Harley
