Toy Collectors Value question
 

I found this toy in an Antique Store the other day, I have some old Hubleys, and other cast toys, but have never seen this on. It has a number in the rumble seat compartment. Looks like 911 or 116.

Anyone have any idea on the value?

In antique toys, the important thing to value is condition, condition and condition. That is why a picture is important to estimate a value. Original paint is very important.

I am pretty sure it is old, and I think I screwed up and missed the mark on it. From doing a little online searching, I think there was probably a mark as indicated in red below, and I missed it, looking inside I was expecting to see it on the roof or under the hood like a Hubley or a Tootsietoy. Guess I am gonna' have to get back in and take another look. I have several car and truck toys, but mostly what I "inherited" and some that were "premiums" at the Mobil Station that we used to own back in the 50's and 60's, but I do not dabble in that market. I just thought it was cool, and it would look good with the others on my shelf.

I saw a white tag that has the word ARCADE. If the toy is marked on the inside (side ) Arcade then it most likely is a good cast iron vintage toy. There are always some on Ebay and they usually go for more that the $75.00 price shown on the white tag.

I thinks the $75 is for the showboat behind the car. I see a 17_ or a 12_ on the tag for the coupe.

Hubley were a very good toy maker that lasted for years and had Numbers and markings on the bottom of the toys I have a few of the old ones a cop on a motorcycle and farm tractor my favorites are the ones that came as a model kit that you put together made from cast alum. from the 50's-60's they offered a few assorted model A's back them sometimes you find them at flea markets still in the kit form for around $75.00 and up. and e-bay luck was finding one for $3.00 with roof was missing at the flea mkt. if only it was at a barn sale it would have been a barn find :)

Yes 75 is for the showboat, they want 125 for the car, but in many cases asking price has little to do with selling price. I also think you are right, it is probably an Arcade. Thanks, with the word "Arcade" I was able to do a qualified search and find similar ones on eBay.

I think $125.00 is a little high. He is, probably, expecting a counter offer. Tell him that you were looking to pay about $50.00 for it. See what he comes up with. If that is not the original paint, it is worth way less.
It's really hard to price, someone else's antique.

Thanks Mike, it looks to me like the Green is original, but the roof top might be re-painted. I am still looking for comps to determine. I agree 125 seems to me to be full premium.

It is made by Arcade. The car is a repainted 30's kids toy. Very collectible, but better deals can be found on Ebay from time to time. The following link will give a value guide. As in the real Model A's, condition and originality mean everything.

The realpricequide you linked to does not list a 116 Model A Coupe with rumble seat but it does list a 6-3/4 inch long Model A Coupe number 106 valued at $550. According to O'Brien's "Collecting Toy Cars & Trucks" Identification and Value Guide (4th edition) copyright 2005, they list a Model A Coupe, rumble seat, No. 116X, 1928, 5" long as being worth $200 in played with condition. The original poster should confirm the length of the car but because it has the number 116 cast into it, it should be 5" long. It does appear to have been repainted at one time making it less valuable.

$125 is what I paid for my first Model A, real, complete , no rust, unrestored... In 1961! ;)
