Can someone ID this type of transmission case with this type of reverse idler shaft. I havn't seen this type before. What Year?:confused: I have the Les Andrews book which gives details of transmission case changes but this does not appear to be listed. Thanks in advance for your help.

if it has an oil scoop on the end of the shaft it is the first style AR, if it does not have the scoop it is the second style AR

That looks like someones attempt to stop the oil leak at the back of the transmission.That piston over the idler shaft looks like it is a part from a small hydraulic piston,a servo from an automatic transmission,it even looks like a part from a John Deere power steering unit from the late 70's.I bet if you slide that piston off the idler shaft there will be an O-ring on the inside too.

I see the oil cup on the front of the reverse idler shaft, so as JW mentioned it's the early 1928 tranny.

The changes are well documented in the SERVICE BULLETINS.

That is the correct shaft for the first style transmission case used in 1927 & early 1928..

Thanks for the info guys, problem solved. Early AR type with the oil scope it is. Also note that it is designed to take the two brass trust washers at either side of the Cluster gear which is consistant with the early style.
