Restoration Qs...28-29 hub caps 4 Attachment(s)
I'm having some difficulty understanding, in the Judging Standards,
the time lines for the specific hub caps and the shapes of those caps. 1. I know exactly what the 1st. style looks like, but I don't understand the note under the photo and the drawing note.....they don't match. 2. The 2nd. style is also the same problem! Also, the photo of the cap "looks" like the surface were the "Ford" in script is flat. 3. The 3rd. is also the same problem, but not that far off. Also, the photo of the 3rd. style "Ford" script looks convex.....like the drawing. Now, the drawing for the 2nd. and 3rd. look the same, except for the bases,....the 2nd. has a slightly "fatter" base? My car is an Mid-August 1928,...do I use the 1st style or the 2nd, back to the time line again. If I use the 2nd style, I would like to see photos of the 2nd and 3rd styles, side by side, also good top views,...so I can figure out which one is which, when I'm looking at a swap meet. I do and appreciate all the hard work that both JSC do! I need some help here with the 2nd style cap,........thank you. This is in the revised 2011, 22-4. Dudley |

The third photo mentions that those hubcaps are for Model AA Commercial vehicles. The 1928 Model AA's with 20 inch spoke wheels used the hubcaps shown in the following photo which are flat like little pancakes. They do not make reproductions and if you come across an original at a swap meet, grab it - they are quite valuable. This set of five NOS hubcaps are currently being offered for sale on the Model AA Truck Forum for $850. Re: Restoration Qs...28-29 hub caps There sure seems to be a discrepancy between the upper left picture of the early hubcap and the first sketch below. The picture description states the hubcap was used until June 28 and the sketch description said until Aug 28. It can't be both. It seems to me the whole section has omissions and errors and needs to be rewritten after with more research done.

Re: Restoration Qs...28-29 hub caps This is easily explained. The first style and the second style profile is the same cap with the exception of the center. The first style has Ford script and Made in U.S.A. plus a star, W, R, or nothing. The second generation cap is called an interim cap with the same profile as the first style but only a Ford script in the center. They are super rare and hard to come by. I have only found one and it went on Dave Lopes' '28 Phaeton. The third style is what you would want to use Dudley. It is the more common cap but with a fatter base. The forth style is similar but with a narrower base. Now, the big challenge is to find all five that match both in profile and scripts. I have at least 7 or 8 variations of original caps.
