Running board rubber

I just bought new 29 self adhesive running board rubber. Should I put a coat of contact cement on the boards, or will the adhesive be enough?

You know Glenn that is a good question. My experience with self adhesive has not been good. Others may have had good experiences.

When I replaced my running board rubber, I used the best quality rubber contact cement available. I don't remember the cement brand name as it was done many year ago, but my running board rubber has remained completely flat and in contact.

I would advise using contact cement.

When I installed my matting on my 28 coupe's runningboards, using Weldwood contact cement (the regular smelly stuff), I had bubbles form under the matting. I had to clamp the rubber down to try to get rid of the bubbles. Next set of matting I install, I am going to use water based contact cement or a 3M adhesive.

If you get a bubble (air), you can slice a hole in it, to let out the air, then the glue will seal it back up.

Hey glenn,
Check into 3M..spray products. This company makes a selection of adhesive sprays for most any application. I have several different cans...from commercial grade on, and they ALL are great products. Just one caveat, which they state in their very detailed app instructions...and that is when you put it together as they direct, make sure placement first try:eek:.

Has anyone glued the matting down with 3M 77 or 94 spray adhesive? If so, has it held up OK? I was thinking of using it since I had bad luck with contact cement.

this glue i have comes with a syringe style applicator which works good for air bubbles in the matting. with a pin hole it can inject the adhesive where needed..

I bought some running board with self adhesive on them and installed them right over some DP90 and they held nicely with out any other glue. make sure you have them in the right spot the first time because it sticks pretty good.
