1930-31 TRUNK Handle hole

I'll be converting my rumble lid into a trunk lid, could someone please measure the location for the Trunk Handle hole? A top and botton from the edge will do. I've got an original rumble latch to swap for a trunk latch if someone wants to trade. Bob

Looks like 1 3/4. I am doing the same conversion now.

No measurements needed, in fact you only need one measurement.

Find the center of the lid left and right and everything else is controlled by the latch and how it has to fit in the lid.

The distance from the top edge is controlled by the distance from the edge of latch to the hole. You put the latch in place and find the distance. The outer hole does not have to be perfect as the rumble handle has a wide cover.

To make the square hole and the 2 screw holes on the inside face you have to place the latch so that it is touching the sheet metal on the underside. If it is not touching then when you put the handle on it will pull the sheet metal down. You then locate the square opening and the screw holes to keep the latch in that position.

It is all surprisingly self locating.

I know all this because the Brookville repro lid came with the latch holes not set up to allow the latch to touch the inside of the sheet metal. This also caused the front edge of the lid to be too high. So I relocated the latch to to touch the sheet metal and the front edge of the lid was also aligned.

If you are using an original lid you want to use original hinges to save your sanity. The repro hinges do not fit in any direction on an original lid. Original hinges fit like a glove.

If it's an original lid it should have the inner hole already punched which certainly helps locate the latch.

It is a nice original but has only been drilled for the rumble latch.
