How do I install a reverse eye spring front spring Hello,
I reverse the main leaf for the front on my pickup and now I have to install it. Do you guys have any advise or how to on install it? conventional spring spreader will not work in this case. its going on a dropped model a axle. thank you for your help!! |
Re: How do I install a reverse eye spring front spring put that leaf on one end with shackle , sit the other end on a piece of 4x2 on the axel , large G clamp in the centre & slowly compress, you will need to add the rest of leaves with long centre bolt & compress slowly . All assuming the axel is out of the vehicle , which makes it easier, Others may have a better way but i have done it this way ,

Re: How do I install a reverse eye spring front spring You might try taking the spring pack apart, installing the main spring and then adding in the others once you have it in place.
I have done this several times in the past with no ill effects. On a side note, be sure to de-burr the ends of your springs so they slide on each other more smoothly. |
Re: How do I install a reverse eye spring front spring If you are putting the complete spring back in the car jack up the chassis, hook up one end and on the other unconnected end put a piece of wood about 1/2" under the eye of the spring and on top of the axle let the jack down and let the weight of the car spread the spring unlil the shckle holes line up.

Re: How do I install a reverse eye spring front spring I have recently re-fitted my rear springs without a spreader. I connected one side of the single main spring up to the shackle, placed a 4x2 under the other end and then had a 2000kg ratchet strap placed diagonaly across the top of the spring and under the differential. Pulled the spring down and connected to the shackle. I then assembled the remaining springs on their side and wraped the whole lot in packing tape. I put the long center bolt in and placed the pack of springs on top of the main spring. Two large 'G' clamps were applied and the nut on the long bolt. Slowly, slowly winding the clamps up and tighten the nut and not forgetting to remove the tape as the springs came down, it all came together nicely. A gentle tap with a leather mallet to keep things lined up and all done

Re: How do I install a reverse eye spring front spring Reverse eye fronts will go together easy if you first install the radius rods to the axle and the ball. You hook in the main spring first to the shackles, then assemble the rest of the spring pack on top of the main, then lift the front axle into place with a jack. The radius rods will guide it into the crossmember. I use a tapered bar to line up the center bolt hole as the axle comes up.

Re: How do I install a reverse eye spring front spring Completely disassemble the spring pack. Install the main leaf first. After it is bolted on, then install the other leaves using C clamps to compress them. Insert the bolt taking care to make sure the bolt head is positioned correctly to fit into the crossmember and tighten it up. Remove the C clamps and bolt the axle and spring assembly into the crossmember.

The front is fairly easy. The back one needs help. This is what I made.
