The best King Pin sets

Which supplier should I order complete King pin rebuild sets from?
Do I have to remove the backing plates to replace the king pins and bushings?
Thanks for any advice. I'm not proud of my ignorance.

If you can, find some kingpins made in the US. There are usually some on eBay. Yes, the backing plates must be removed to remove and install kingpins. The adjusting cone is in the way.

FWIW:

Bought a pair of king pins from a Model A vendor in Texas about 16 years who since then shut down his Model A parts place.

They were not well made.

I later called Mr. Walt Bratton & received some good ones & threw the others away.

There may or may not be private individuals trying to get rid of some of these poorly made ones -- just call & ask .............. for the sake of good steering, do it once ...... do it right ........ time is as valuable as money & cheap parts always cost more in the long run.

Order some from any of the main vendors and you should be fine. Keep in mind that simply replacing your kingpins will probably not solve your problem as you need to also replace the bushings in the spindles are more than likely worn out.

I would start by pulling the kingpins out and mic-ing them to see if they are, in fact worn. You may find that you only need to replace the bushings.

my only advice is to make sure they were made in the usa, isreal is reproducing some parts and they are pretty good, a 1000 times better than any thing you can get from rice land

Some of the not so current reproduction king pins were not hardened properly. If you can file a groove on the finished shaft then I was told they are too soft.
