Smoking '34 resistor

I heard it is normal for a new build '34 for the resistor to burn, smoke, smell and that it will wear off after a while. Is this accurate? Mine seems to do this, I am into only the first few hours of getting it running....

I had the same problem with the resistor in my 35PU. Smoked for a few minutes, then all was well. Sort of unsettling at first.

They usually do smoke when used at first....like Lawson said pretty scary at first.

If it is a GYP repro made with a bamboo core it will smoke until it won't work ---the car will smell like a trash fire in a 3rd world country. ---it was made by wrapping wire around bamboo instead of ceramic, and will have wood screws holding it together instead of being rivited

The smoking i was told is usually the varnish burning off a new unit.

The NOS ones I have don't have any varnish on them, some dirt and dust ---when I replaced the wood one with a real Ford one the "smoke" only lasted 30 seconds, the cheap (cheap in construction, not price)one smoked till the car stopped running
