Has anyone used Nason Ful-cryl II paint with catalyst 483-11?

what do you think?
how long did it last?

other than the above question: what do you think of base coat/clear coats?

I haven't tried the paint you referenced. I do not like clear coats because when they are scratched, they look white, very noticeable. A good single coat paint that is rubbed out properly is excellent and more like the originals on our old cars.

I have used Nason urethane single stage but don't remember if it is the same as what you are inquiring about. It has been on my car about 10 years (always garaged)with no discernible deterioration. I just used the single stage and wet/color sanded it out without a clear coat. I did not want the highly glossy "wet look" finish. I wanted it to look more like a factory job and I think it does without the clearcoat.

Basecoat/clearcoat can be seen and recognized as incorrect paint from 20 ft away. It's OK for a new car, but the old cars deserve the best.

I used nason acrylic enamel with good results. Not the highest quality, but workable. Paul

according to my paint dealer-Nason is off-spec/old Dupont--anyway I have painted three trucks with it. The only problem I had was a tint that was bad and caused problems in the paint (red), they gave me the products to correct the problem but did not pay to repaint. The paint has held up well on my 41 truck for 3 years, the other trucks were a modern farm truck and another older pickup all are doing well

Used Nason on my '30 Cabriolet, excellent product, easy to work with, very hard finish.

I've used Nason products for a few years and no complaints here, painted my 32 frame with ful-thane urethane, and just painted my 31 coupe with Nason acrylic enamel, using the 483-11 ful cryl catalyst. No complaints, only problems I had was operator induced, like forgetting to use fisheye eliminator the First time I painted my frame.

P.S. About base coat clear coat , I can't stand them, I have painted a couple newer cars with it, don't like it, but of course I grew up using the old stuff, so I'm a little bias.

Just finished painting my roadster with Nason Urethane single stage, great results and buffs beautifully. Plus it is a DuPont product and much more reasonable (if that word even applies in this day and age) in price than DuPont branded paint. Here's a shot of the car (the blue one) at the GNRS this year, in the late morning sun.

Using Nason now and only problems is fisheye can't seem to make it go away.Got some fisheye eliminator will try that but never had to use it with Valspar I used on my 40.Painted the hood and deck lid 4 times and have to do it again.How much eliminator do you use in a maxing cup full of paint not the whole gallon.It seems to comeon the clear coat after I'm finished when I come back after 30 in or so

I have used the Nason acryllic enamel for years with no problems other than the ones I caused myself. I have painted 3 chassis with it and the chassis are still looking good 10 years later and you can pressure wash them with no problems. I have painted all of the body parts with Nason products and they color sand with no problems.

It does not take much, I think the urethane calls for 1-2 ounces per gallon, I only put about 1/2 ounce in a mixing cup. Are you wiping everything down with a good cleaner first? Also what about your air supply? I have alot of issues with my air (moisture, oil from compressor) and I get most of it out with a separator and lots of filters in line.

Fish eyes are caused by contaminants.They can come from oil or wax on rags or hands that were thought to be clean.They can come from rags that were washed with fabric softener or dryer sheets in the dryer.Hand cleaners are also loaded with silicone that can almost never be washed out.I used to do a lot of painting.When I was doing a complete,I'd remove all chrome, emblems etc.and wash the whole car down with TSP and hot water.Then,wipe it down with a wax and silicone remover before sanding. If fish eyes are going to be a problem,they will usually show up when the sealer is applied.

fish eye eliminator is silicon . When you use it you are making your paint a silicon paint. Don't beat it by joining it. Best way to stop fish eyes is to use wax and grease remover before paint and to not paint heavy first coat. if you still have a problem look to. do you have real clean air ? very important . when all fails reprime and pray.

Maybe its solvent popping and not fisheye.
Happens when the paint skins over but the underlying solvents are still trapped underneath. They pop out like little volcanoes and look a lot like fisheye.
Solvent popping happens in the drying process.
Usually when I see fisheye it happens sooner.

We just finished this .We some times use Nason , here's a before and after shot ,If you are spraying out side beware of tree pollen you can get fish eyes from it ,it wise to keep a cover over it .Like the previous posters we use a hot water wash as well as a degreaser you can use a window cleaner that's alcohol based ,This is a solid colour .We do use base coat clear coats to (Dupont ) brand mainly on modern cars .Top show cars here have a solid colour with a clear coat on top but well polished, it may not last as long but you get the look .

Thanks Henry ,This is my son doing it ,he spent days polishing it ,it had got very hard I think it should be polished in the first few days .I started at about 1964 at 14 with a vacuum cleaner gun , been doing it of and on ever since ,This is Dupont Duxone ,one up from Nason a Base coat clear coat.Nason is the cheaper version low teck product .Sorry Ford Man didn't meant to take over your thread .

I use wax and grease and have 2 filter systems on my guns seperate air hoses and don't use the filter side outlet for anything but paint guns.This is about to drive me more nuts that I am.Never used retarder before but will try it when it warms up.Sanded back to primer again, start over.Thanks
