Subrails and cross chanels
 

I'm new here and starting work on a 31 roadster. The back half of my subrails and all 3 cross channels are junk and need to be replaced before I can start putting the body together. In looking at the ads for these from most of the suppliers, I notice that some are trim to fit, and some seem to be already trimmed with tabs and holes and ready to rivet on. Of course the price is higher for the ready to rivet ones. So my question is, are the more expensive ones worth it or do you still have to fabricate them to get them to fit anyway? Thanks, Steve

Hi Steve, I ordered mine from Snyder's and had to trim them. See FLOP's 30 roadster build and he gives the dimension's of the crossmembers. If you can't find it let me know and I'll send them to you k.

I bought my crossmembers from Brookville and trimed them to fit. I was lucky to have originals as a guide. The ends need to be fussed with if you want them to look like the original, and I plan to rivet them together. Two 3/4 sheets of MDF make for a good table top to align all the pieces on. Bob

the trim to fit are a rip off for 75 dollars . i can have all 3 bent for 25 dollars at the local hvac shop .

I could probably make them if I had enough of them to use as a pattern but I don't. Not sure if there are two or three different sizes. I think one is wider than the others. Thanks, steve

Also remember that the cross rails need to be dimpled and punched for floorboard D-nuts and for pan rivets.

i would definitely go with the pre cut cross channels, if your originals are too far gone to use as patterns, as i mine were, it makes it very difficult to find the mounting holes, square them up to the sub rails, & cut them to the right width.
