Gasket for ammeter Does anyone know where I could buy the paper gasket for an original ammeter? I have a couple ammeters that need gaskets. I checked a couple of parts catalogs and didn't see any gaskets in them. These are quote thin/narrow and would be hard to make from gasket material.

Re: Gasket for ammeter Rusty,
Since there are none available for sale, I make mine. The original ammeters that I restore, some have their original gaskets which were made from thick scrap paper. Sometimes there is printing on the paper of the originals. What I do is get a hole punch kit from Harbor Freight. There is a cutter in there for the inside diameter. Lay some thick paper on a wood surface, use a compass to scribe a circle on the paper for the outside diameter of the gasket to be used. The compass will leave a hole in the center, use that for the hole punch as it has a built in center punch. Punch your hole for the inside diameter. Then carefully cut the scribe mark with a pair of sharp scissors, you will have a nice gasket. Go for it! |
