Door windows.

On the driver side, my window will drift down while driving about an inch. If I have this same window down, it will drift up about an inch. What's happening and what do I need to do to correct it?
Thanks in advance.

Mine does that also, but I usually have to drive the car more than an inch to have it happen.
(Sorry I had to throw that in....) I suspect a new window regulator would fix it. If there is a easier and cheaper way maybe one of our other members would know.

inside your winder on your window regulator there is a clutch spring that will not allow the window to move without turning the handle. I think you have a broken clutch spring. some of the regulators are easy to take apart and fix, and some are a pain to take apart.

Clean and oil worked for me.

If it is a broke clutch spring...is it a replaceable part, and who would have it..(part numbers) if possible.
Thanks so much.

1930 coupe, I actually thought about that being a possibility, but the fact that it rides up when I have the window open dispels that, as many times as I have had this handle off. I can wind it up and down effortlessly but drifts one and a half inches in either direction.

I also think it's the clutch spring in the window regulator. The heavy counterweight spring must be in good order since the window can drift up or down, but the clutch lock spring isn't holding the shaft tight.

Mount the handle such as the weight of the handle tends to hold it up when closed and down when open

Chief's Tip# 119, would probably been, "Jist hang a Bull Durham Tobacco sack, full of gravel, on the window crank goody, to keep it up"!! Bill W.
