If my memory serves me correctly, I believe the A in question failed to make the trip due to mechanical failure of the motor.

Yes, they broke down and decided to repair and retry the trip.

June of this year I flew to south bend indiana to work on my fathers home (he passed away three months earlier) once done I decided to visit the studibaker museum accross town. I planned to drive the lincoln highway then head through nebraska then head south over the rockies then home to california , in my fathers '79 porsche 911. To my surprise in that days s.bend tribune was an article inregards to the history of that famed highway and that a crew of mostly historic cars and more than a few model A's were meeting at the museum that evening . I tell you it couldn't have been planned so accuratly. I met some of the nicest folks who were traveling west to meetup with a crew traveling east. I was a perfect way to end my personal trip to indiana and begin an eventfull trip drive myself.
I don't know the outcome of those folks who made their way west the next day, but I myself required a push in the flatness of iowa because the starter failed at 2a.m., but I made it home 2100 miles without a strater. Speedo failed in colorado . I spent the day in lake mead due to record heat ,140 degrees is way too hot for an aircooled engine. Freshair fan melted and filled the coupe with smoke. But I made it without incodent.
So hats off to those who set out to journey accross the states . Nothing compares to days living out of your car . Its that feeling of no turning back now that completely comsumes you.

I was watching their tracking and noticed they seem to be the same place in Texas for over a hour! looks to be at a Truck Stop.

9:30PM EST - They just crossed into California on I40.

9:50PM EST - They just passed Exit 133 (I95 North) on I40. They are about 250 miles (4 1/2 hours) from Venice Beach.
