28-29 CCPU anti-squeak...
 

This is for the 1928 thru mid 1930 CCPU....

Is there "anti-squeak" material between the top and bottom sections
of the center panels?

Dudley.
I thought the panels were spot welded and thus no anti-squeak was used. BTW, I still haven't gotten my top and bottom panels separated due to rust issues so I can't really tell if they are spot welded together. Maybe Dan Partain will chime in about the back panels. I think he had his apart.

I have removed the "V" shaped connector between the two rear panels of the 82-A closed cab. I have not found evidence of anti-squeak material. The panels were not spot welded.

I agree, no spot welds across that seam. I do have a VE-28 canter
section, Ford script, that does have "anti-squeak",..but it's molested.
I also have taken apart a later version, unmolested, that didn't have
any,......just thinking.

Thanks, Neil and Dudley for the NO spot weld info. I thought Dudley and I discussed whether the upper and lower panels were spot welded before. I guess I thought they were welded together. I am having a tough time separating the 2 panels as I can't get the clamping strip removed. The panels and clamping strip appear to be rusted together. I am looking for a good original clamping strip I would need if I need to "split" the one on my CCPU. I hope to get it off in one piece, but after more than a week of soaking it in PB Blaster, still no luck. I don't see why using a little friction tape between the panels would be a problem as it is so thin it wouldn't be seen and would stop any squeaks that might occur.

The problem with using friction tape is that the cloth absorbs and holds water. This will result in rust. I used caulk made for auto body seams. There is no squeak and a good water seal.

I have used heat (applied to the "V" strip to help break up the rust built up. One needs to be careful to not warp the panels!
