Is this worth $5500.?
 

I found this nearby .Its a 1930 Ford pickup. The owner sold the cab and the bed is homemade of wood.
It runs,drives,has many new parts but is missing aprons,windshield,w/shield posts.I can buy it for $5500.

Lots of things look incorrect ever for what is there. Looks like it may have a Model T box. Definately the wrong horn, wrong seats and wrong wheels. Too much hodge podge to be a good start for a project as most of it needs replaced with correct parts to be the 30-31 pickup the owner started to build with what he happened to have on hand. IMHO $3000 would be the minit depending on the overall condition of the drive train and brakes. Rod

Does not look like correct wheels as well. $5500 seems a little high but you need to ask yourself are you going to have fun rebuilding it? Do you plan to keep it for the foreseeable future? These are the intangibles that make a monetary decision difficult. After all, this is not an orange where a price is easy to determine if it is too high.

I would not pay over 2,000 for it. But I would not really see a deal being made with him asking 5,500.

I'd walk away from that one and take that money and add a bit more to it, and seek out a properly restored pickup and be done with it.

Good Model A pickups aren't hard to find. Buy the best one you can you will be money ahead rather than trying to resurrect THAT turd. Unless you like throwing money away,

I agree that about $2000 to $2500 is what I'd pay as a good start to building a wood panel truck or depot hack.

One to many zeros in the asking price. There are many abandoned projects out there that would be more complete than this one. Too many odd and missing parts to make it right. Also, find one with a clear title before you buy.

FWIW:

1. Does it really matter what "others" think?

2. In my opinion, it "all" depends what "you" want, e.g.:

A. A "complete" original Model A truck that other Model A owners would consider rather authentic looking; or,

B. A vehicle for semi-recreational transportation assembled with parts ranging from 1929 to 1931, or anything similar that is not authentic looking.

3. If you state your feelings on "exactly" what "you" want, the Forum replies will begin to have credence.

4. If "you" like it & listen to what "others" want in a vehicle:

A. After it is possibly sold or picked up by one of the owner's family members, we will hear, "I should have bought it."; &,

B. After you bought it & find out you do not have time to restore it, or find out it cost another $6,000.00 to restore it, we will hear, "I should have listened & just paid $12,000.0 for a restored Model A truck.

5. Let us know what would make "you" happy after the purchase & the replies received will begin to sound like music to your ears.

If you want it bad enough, pay it. But it looks to me like around the $2000 recommended above would be enough. You can buy chassis for anywhere from $1000 on up on various sites. And it looks like that is about all you are getting. Questions would be: what will I use for a body? What will I do with the "junk" that I take off of it? And a number of other questions.

This is, no way, a bargin. The owner, probably, sold the body to a "hot-rodder" and thought that he could still make money from an "antiquer".
Don't do it. Now days, you can find a pretty complete car for that price. Keep searching.

3000. wo is fine too
good running chassis go for 2000.-2500. and this has a 500. bed and a bit more....

nobody wants to pay much, but believe me, when they're selling the value goes up by a million!

It depends where you are and what's available in your vicinity. If you already know of a cab and other parts to make it a complete car that's one story. If you don't have ready access to those parts then it's another story. From stories I hear you will pay half again as much in the Northeast than you would in the Midwest.

Looks like a decent parts find to me, not much else. Maybe 1200-1500 bucks tops. Like someone here said you can still snag a decent mostly complete Model A Ford for fifty five hundred dollars.

If you are fairly interested, offer $1500 and your phone number with an explanation on why you feel that's the value, tell him to list it for awhile and if he has no luck selling it your offer stands. I have bought a lot of cars that way after the seller comes back to earth.
