Muffler dent I have a good exhaust/muffler/tailpipe, but it has a small to moderate dent in it. I would like to know if there is some heat resistant filler of some type I could use to fill the dent to make it look better before I paint the exhaust system with heat resistant paint. I don't know how hot the muffler gets, but I think it gets pretty hot. Any leads would be appreciated.

Re: Muffler dent old or new muff? you may be able to pull it out with a cleco fastener than cut and grind to perfect

Re: Muffler dent borrow a stud puller, it welds a stud to what ever your working on then you use the slide hammer attachement to pull the demt out, then you use a pair of wire cutters to twist the stud off,it will leave a smal tit on work but can be ground or filed off easily, no need to drill holes in work, harbour frieght sells them for $80, the best body dent puller you will ever buy

Re: Muffler dent How about taking it to one of those pop-a-dent shops and have them just suck it out?

Re: Muffler dent How large is the dent?? I'd be more concerned with broken/loose/bent baffles possibly causing a backflow/restriction problem.

Re: Muffler dent The dent isn't very large, so I don't think there is any problem inside the muffler. I have a HF stud gun, so I might give it a try to pull out the dent.

Re: Muffler dent thats the tool to use rusty, pull the dent in the opposit direction it went in,use several studs, dont just start in the middle, if you do you will have a hump in the middle of the dent on some dents its better not to use the slide hammer feature, just use the slide hammer to pull the dent, or use a claw hammer to grip the stud with a back up piece of wood to prevent making another dent, using the claw hammer on the stud will give you more leverage to pull the dent, use a big carpenter hammer for that
