Thievery At Monterey Auctions Three high dollor Chevy's (could have been Fords just as easy) were stolen at Monterey. I have been to a couple of Mecum's Auctions and thought security was pretty tight. I received this from Hemmings.

Re: Thievery At Monterey Auctions SHADETREE ................
It is amazing that such a thing could happen, with all the emphasis on security, nowdays. MIKE :) |
Re: Thievery At Monterey Auctions Not a big fan of the 1957 Chevrolet but that really is too bad about the one owner unrestored 1957 Chevrolet that was stolen. Likely to be parted out. I hope the authorities recover the cars.

Re: Thievery At Monterey Auctions Probably already on a ship, on their way to a foreign country.

Re: Thievery At Monterey Auctions I think there's a lot of putting stuff into a container and then burying it in some sort of "legal" cargo, something that would be difficult for customs to dig through to get to the stolen items.

Re: Thievery At Monterey Auctions I read some of the comments on the Hemmings Site and some think it could have been an inside job.... Very well could have been. Surely they had cameras, I hope they catch the thieves.

Re: Thievery At Monterey Auctions I have a relative in the container / shipping business, he says the paper work was done before the cars were stolen, then loaded in a container, then taken to the shipper, with paper work and container sealed at the port, and was most likely a inside job, with more than someones- two or three someones, and the paper work lets the car out the gate, at the auction ?? I do hope the owner get there cars back all complete .....OLD.....BILL

Re: Thievery At Monterey Auctions That 1957 is listed in the current issue of Hemmings; boy I hope they get the cars back.

Re: Thievery At Monterey Auctions I have an F450 used to tow my horse trailer and custom car trailer. It (F450) represents quite a bit of money...1st thing I did before leaving the dealership was buy a Lo-Jack. They installed it and it seemed like a really cheap insurance policy. The newer versions have an alert button that activates when the car / truck is moved and you have the keys. Just saying...
