Question about Intake & Exhaust Manifold Gasket
 

Good day all,
I have a question about the intake & exhaust manifold gasket(flat steel clad asbestos-like 1-piece gasket) for a 1930 Sport Coupe - which way round does the gasket go? In other words, steel surface facing the block or the manifold?

Steel side facing the manifolds is correct.

Yes, as Purdy said the steel faces the manifold because the manifold is much hotter than the block.

Thanks guys, I assembled the manifold as you suggest, and the car runs much better now. Thanks for the advice
