blown away with Snyders postage charges

Today I received my first order from Snyders. The motor repair book, the transmission book and the free catalog. The three small books came in a 14" x 14" x 4-1/2" box stuffed with paper. Shipping cost was $32.97 All they had to do was put them in a 13" x 10" envelope and the postage would have been $7.95 My total bill came to $56.97 for $24 of books. Why do people do this??? Ticks me off.

How thick were the 3 books? Cover types? To be sent by what they call a Large Envelope, the thickness cannot be more than 3/4" with flexible contents (ie not rigid) or it must be sent as a package I believe.

I only charge actual freight on all of my parts; new and used. I am sure Snyders has a handling fee. But, the Canada thing can be tricky/pricey.

Hell, I could have shipped all of them to you for less.

Now you know why people cut a small nail instead of buying a timer pin, because if you ordered one, instead of an envelope it would come in a foot cube box. Maybe they do not know any better than to use a large box?

That doesn't surprise me at all. Snyder's is still a family run business and as good a people as you could ever hope to do business with. Glad to hear that it all worked out to your satisfaction!

MACS "MAYBE" would've given you a $22 store credit to buy more junk from them and wait 2 weeks for it to arrive. ws

Mac's wouldn't have did a thing, I know that for sure. I ordered a couple of brass bushings for a starter and a "free catalog". The put the "free catalog" in the huge box, it got cubed and weighed, was sent UPS besides, shipping was $50, then I got a bill in the mail from UPS for brokerage fees of $10.

Shipping seems to be the newest cottage industry the last couple of years.

McInnes Antique Auto in Niagra Falls, Canada, can be a bit slow / hard to reach sometimes but at least they will use the post office and no brokerage fees.

Just a few weeks ago I got an order from Snyder's. Came by Fed-X, first time ever, was a few dollars less then UPS. Also came Next morning. Go figure.
