what do you run in your model a engine so it doesn't get destroyed
by ethanol in the gas. maybe I should run some of my r/c engine
fuel..nitro-something in it.

I don't believe that the engine will be harmed. It may not run so well due to vapor lock. There may be corrosion in the tank or carb. It might dissolve the coating on the gas tank fuel gauge float. If you had a fuel pump or other rubber components, possibly the Viton tip on some carb float valves, might be damaged.

There is no chemical that neutralizes ethanol, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone were selling an additive claiming to do so.

It wont. Dont leave fuel in it without running it for long periods of time. Shut the fuel off and run the carb out of gas before storage. Use a fuel stabilizer. Really all the things you should do anyway.

I've run mine on R/C fuel (nitromethane +castor oil) when that was all I had to get me a half mile to the gas station. Smelled great. I've also run it on kerosene after a warmup on R/C fuel. Ran pretty darn good, too.

Nj has had it in the gas for a long time, there were problems in the beginning, but now it is less of a problem, havn't done anything or had any problems with the car or the lawnmower because of it in the past 3-4 years---it will make a rich carb run leaner ---reducing the exhaust emissions ---turn off the fuel shutoff valve long enough before you shut off the ignition to run the bowl low or out

That's because all the old engines were destroyed by the fuel and are no longer being used. :cool::D

Same, if you drive the car reguarly (more than a tank a year) and do shut off the fuel before parking it for long periods you shouldnt have a problem.

I believe henry himself thought that cars would be running on ethanol back in the 30-40's... its not a "new" thing by any means

I only drive locally in my old cars and all I use is non-ethanol gas. There are 3 stations within 10 miles of me that sell it. Hopefully in the not so distant future I'll take some trips and then I guess I'll have to use the ethanol "bilge water" gas.......:eek::mad::(

All gas in Colorado has Ethanol in it. I have no problems.

I have to fill up the Tudor about every 2 weeks. No problems. Even if the car is going to be driven the next morning, still shut off the fuel and let the motor run until it completely uses the fuel in the carb.

Bob- "Bilge water gas".. Ha ha! That was a good one.

Metalho- I believe that is one of the key ingredients in Marvel Mystery Oil.

About5-6 years ago, I had to replace the "Rubber" fuel line in my Stihl chainsaw. They told me it came from putting the saw away with gas in the tank. I've often wondered if it was the Ethanol in the gas. Anyone know?

In the old vehicles, I don't worry about ethanol and have not had any issues. I only add Sea-foam for winter storage.
I use non-ethanol [ only in high octane around here] in the small engines because I have had problems with the corn laden stuff.

i haven't had any problems with our lawnmowers or our 2 cycle boat engines or weed whackers. I have had to replace fuel lines on our leaf blower and a friends stihl weed whacker because they seem to have dried out and turned to hard plastic and break.

I've been using 100 Octane Sunoco race fuel. It's not cheap but it is ethanol free.

I've had nothing but problems with the ethanol adultrated fuel. If the model A isn't driven on long trips or every day until it all gets used, there will more than likely be problems. It is best not to leave it in the model A gas tank for over two weeks. It reduces power and MPG, it causes the valves to become sticky and partial loss of compression.Ethanol has really played hell with my weed eater and power saws. Ethanol swells rubber. I had to use channel lock pliers to mremove the gas cap on my power saw after the use of ethanol fuel. The carburetor had to be replaced on my weed eater. We use it in the modern car because it is driven every day and refueled at least once a week. We finally got a Shell station that sells real gas at the back pumps. If I couldn't get real gas for the model A's. it would be more trouble than it would be worth for me to run them at all. Newer vehicles can handle it better. I don't drive my model A's nearly as often as I use to but I want them to be ready to crank and go when ever I'm ready.

Here in California we don't have any choice...it is all ethanol and has been for some time. I drive my A probably 2-3 times a week and have not noticed any problems at all, and I do not run all the fuel out when I turn it off either. I have always used MMO and still do...not sure if it helps with the ethanol, but my car runs just fine and I have no issues with it, although I am sure the mileage has suffered a bit.
