Re: Rear cork question I don't know the measurement, but just tuck it fully into the groove and cut off the excess.

Re: Rear cork question The 28-29 forged main cap uses the rear pan cork seal that is 13/32 wide. The 30-31 cast rear main cap uses a 3/8 wide rear pan cork seal. The cork seals are all too long and have to be trimmed, they are said to be about 1/2 inch too long. Some have trouble fitting the seal in the cap because they try and use the wrong width seal.

Re: Rear cork question When I did mine I used bought a pan set for a mid-70's small block chevrolet. I took the piece for the rear main cap and trimmed it to length. It pushes into place easier than the cork gasket in the A set. Worked great and does not leak.

Re: Rear cork question Some model a venders don't sell the rear pan cork seperately. Bratton list these parts on page 44 of the newest catalog. The 28-29 13/32 Part number 9790 . The 30-31 3/8 seal part number 9800 .Both list for one dollar each. Most only sell these with the coimplete gasket set or the pan gasket set and both are included in most gaskety sets.
