Horn reassembling issues
 

I have searched this forum and found great articles on The Spartan horn but I cannot find any pictures or drawings on how to reassemble the Brushes, Terminal Block, ect. on a horn that has been disassembled . Can you please help me with us. I try to research on my own because I find your articles are great and I have learned so much from you but for some reason I cannot help myself on this Thanks Billy

Do you have any of the vendor catalogs?? Most have a detailed illustration.

Remember the brush holders need an insulating washer ON EACH SIDE of the motor frame. Also make sure the brushes slide freely in the holders. I had a deformed holder from a too long cover screw running into it.

Dont forget that the bell, diaphram, and motor base all MUST be aligned correctly. Each has a drain hole in the bottom.

The guys above have given you some really good information. The only thing I can add is to pay particular attention to the spring in the very front of the armature that puts tension on the rotating shaft. The spring is there to control thrust movement. However, many horns are found to have too much tension in this area and it affects the sound of the ahooguh. Bend the spring so that it is applying as little tension as possible, only enough to control thrust.

assy the brush holder to the frame with the flat head screw with insulation cup washer-then a flat insulation washer then the field washer with the slot down on the brush holder-and then the spring goes in - then the brass arm and then the brush. Do the other side the same. it can be trying to get the armature back in and getting the brushs in place at the same time. but you will get it after a few trys. I sit the horn bell seam looking at me when assy. the horn, the small hole in the horn diaphame at the 1 oclock pos. put the first gasket in then the diaphame and then the second gasket and then the motor plate and install the motor plate...hope this helps ya buddy. if you need more help give us a knock on the door...

Here's a picture of a Sparton horn that I had to rewind the fields.

You can see the screw mark in the left brush holder, where the too long screw ran into the brush holder.

Thank you for all your great input. I think I can get it from here .With out your help and articles you all have written previously on the forum We would have a hard time affording this hobby Thanks Billy
