Prefered Exhaust/Intake gasket style? What is everyones preferred way to sealing between the block and the intake/exhaust manifolds?
Plain gasket as Henry did it? Gasket used with gland rings? Copper gasket? Copper gasket with gland rings built in? 2 separate gaskets? 1 big gasket? Use that tacky spray coppercoat gasket sealer? Etc... I saw there were many many options and just kinda curious as to what seems to be the most reliable and what better place to ask than here! |
Re: Prefered Exhaust/Intake gasket style? sea slug , where have you been ? school ? haven't heard from you in ages .
I use the one peace . snyders http://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/up...9433F-7429.jpg1 Piece Manifold Gasket The one piece manifold gasket. Asbestos with steel covering. U.S.A. Part NumberSpecificsPrice A-9433-F1928-31$4.95 / ea. with high heat orange silicone . worked for years for me .... how is the AA coming ? .............. steve |
Re: Prefered Exhaust/Intake gasket style? I used the late 31's, two pieces, copper.

Re: Prefered Exhaust/Intake gasket style? 1 Attachment(s)
the one piece that V4F is showing is able to slide in and out without removing the manifolds just loosening the nuts. i prefer the copper gaskets 2 piece and have replaced them with and without gland rings. when i install new int and exh manifolds i use the rings as they go right together NP. old manifolds are usually drooped and the rings are hard to install. either way works

Re: Prefered Exhaust/Intake gasket style? I have the A&L copper one, no sealer, just properly prepared surfaces ---this way if I have to take it apart I don't have to replace the gasket --actually I just replaced the exhaust manifold for the second time in 2 weeks ---I took my brothers nicest one ---but when I installed it and found it had been surfaced at an angle I gave it back and took an ugly one --the previous A&L gasket lasted over 25 years

Re: Prefered Exhaust/Intake gasket style? one or two piece copper no asbestos sandwhich , and gland rings really can help to seal but have to be lined up well just go slow and steady
|
Re: Prefered Exhaust/Intake gasket style? Seems you guys seem to like the 2 piece non gland copper type. I like the simplicity of that one piece asbestos but i would think the steel would eventually start to rust...copper will just get dark

Re: Prefered Exhaust/Intake gasket style? Do you use the separate gland rings or the 2 piece copper with a gland built in? Im assuming the gland goes into the manifold side right? Or are the built in ones glands centered so a bit goes in both the block and manifolds?
I havent seen either one up close so im new to this haha |
Re: Prefered Exhaust/Intake gasket style? I use copper with the gland rings. I did have to leave out the rear ring due to a slight droop in the exhaust manifold. My next tool might have to be something to try to remove the exhaust manifold sag.

Re: Prefered Exhaust/Intake gasket style? The gasket I like to use is the one by Brattons copper clad with out gland ring's.

Re: Prefered Exhaust/Intake gasket style? Tom that will be quite the tool looking forward to seeing it. On my last rebuild of a diamond block we pulled 4 manifolds out and everyone of them had sagged some a little and some a lot.
Had to do the same as you left out the last ring. Quote:

Re: Prefered Exhaust/Intake gasket style? I use the same one as VF4. I've never had one leak as long as the manifold is actually flat.
|
Re: Prefered Exhaust/Intake gasket style? +1` for A&L . I use the 31 2 piece style. Their gaskets do not squish out like others.

Re: Prefered Exhaust/Intake gasket style? Lots of gaskets get squished out and manifolds warped from torqueing and over tightening. I've squished a lot of gaskets and warped several manifolds that way.
