40-41 pickup hood safety catch

So I have a repro latch on a repro grille center but the hook won't go far enough forward to catch on the underside of the hood because it hits the top of the grille center itself. What gives?

Chinese junk, and I am not talking about the boat.

Yep I have one the same. Not a show of fitting when I opened it up so I threw it in the box to deal with another day. Does anyone reproduce one that actually fits?

I've been driving a car that had the bonnet fly up at 55mph, it's not really something I want to do again.

40 and 41 are not the same, are they? Thought there was a difference.

I'm talking about the safety catch, the piece that bolts through the grille center and you push the little knob in the top of the grille center to release the hood (secondary catch).

Ok, got it. I have a Drake grill and catch that fit just fine on my standard coupe.
