Question on mounting a new coil (+ and -)

Can someone tell me the correct direction of installing a new coil? I'm assuming that the + on the coil goes on the passenger side of the firewall and has a wire that connects to the ignition switch. And the - on the coil goes on the driver's side of the firewall and has a short black wire that goes to the driver's side of the junction box. In addition, there is a wire from the driver's side of the junction box that goes to the negative side of the ammeter. Also there is a wire from the passenger side of the junction box that goes to the + side of the ammeter. Am I correct? The coil I am removing had no + and - on it. Thanks.

Re: Question on mounting a new coil (+ and -)

If the car is + grd. then the + primary terminal on the coil should end up at the distributor.. That means the + coil lead goes to the ignition switch.. One way to check for correct polarity is the pencil test.. The flare should be toward the sparkler.. The lead from the passenger side of the box goes to the charge [or passenger] side of the ammeter..

My car is 6V, positive ground, so it sounds like I've got things right. Thanks.
