1931 - Emergency Brake Linings I purchased new emergency brake lining at Hershey last year and I find that they are not drilled. These linings are not very thick and I was wondering if anyone has had good results with using brake lining adhesive rather than rivets? Thanks for your help, Ed

Re: 1931 - Emergency Brake Linings I would never go back to riveted linings. Get the linings bonded on at a brake shop. Supply them with the drums are they will grind to fit the drum. Bonding is the only way to go, with one proviso. The linings have to be suitable for steel drums, if they are soft enough. There is a grey softer lining I have used for many years, which when bonded and ground to size, work perfectly, do not squeal and last for many years.

Re: 1931 - Emergency Brake Linings Drilling and rivetting the linings isn't too hard to do. Try the search feature for the way I did it.

Re: 1931 - Emergency Brake Linings Do it yourself. A phenolic high temperature cure adhesive is generally used. There are several brands. Here's one:
